Okay, this is much more in service of #KeepOppoWeird than anything else - like good musical taste for example.
The first time I ever heard this was on Monty Python’s Flying Circus, so naturally assumed it was a joke. Uh, no. Song quality + fake band + awful miming... I think it’s pretty much the Rebecca Black’s Friday of 1968.

Insanely obscure reference alert!
Whenever I hear this song I remember the 80's Tuscan ice cream commercial, Yummy yummy yummy I’ve got Tuscan in my tummy.

There was a whole rash of bubblegum pop bands from that era. Ohio Express and 1910 Fruitgum Company being probably the biggest.
Most of the songs sound the same, but Quick Joey Small by the incredibly named Kasenetz-Katz Singing Orchestral Circus is pretty great.
